  • MARIA SILVA

We recently had Lucas and his crew from Summit Home Services remodel our bathroom, and the results exceeded our expectations. Lucas was professional, reliable, and easy to communicate wit, he always got back to us quickly and showed up right on time. The space looks beautiful, and the job site was spotless when they finished. I'd definitely recommend Summit Home Services and will be calling them again for future projects!

  • Lori Horak

Lucas and his team helped with a bathroom remodel that we were doing. They were responsible for all tile work, paint, moldings and install of our vanity. In addition, they painted our ceilings in several other rooms. They were completely professional. The work was done on schedule, they cleaned up each day prior to leaving our home, and the work is beautifully done. I would not hesitate to use them again.

What shapes the job

What decides how a tile floor job goes

01

Area

The size of the area

Larger areas get our lowest rate. Small rooms, tight spaces and custom patterns take more time.

02

Layout

The pattern

Straight rows are quickest. Tile laid on an angle needs almost every edge piece cut individually, which can add days.

03

Prep

The surface underneath

A flat, solid floor is ready to go. One that dips or is damaged needs fixing first.

04

Removal

The old flooring

It comes out first, so the new tile goes down on a flat, solid surface.

05

Access

Access and obstacles

Hard-to-reach spots, corners and fixtures all mean slower, more careful work.

06

Material

Porcelain or ceramic

We install both, including large-format tile, in bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, laundry rooms and basements.

Picking your tile

You pick the tile. We walk you through it first.

There are way too many choices with tile. Sizes, patterns, shading, colors, finishes, and the material itself, whether that is ceramic, porcelain or natural stone. That is too many variables for us to pick for you. If we took your idea and went out to buy it, we would be buying the wrong thing, and then there would be a lot of back and forth to work out what you actually wanted.

So we walk the space with you first. We talk about what you want and what is best for the space. We give you our recommendations and some definite don'ts. Then we give you everything you need to buy it yourself, including the amounts.

Floor & Decor, Tile Shop, Avalon and other local tile places all work. A big showroom gives you a range from lower to higher end. At the local places it is more hands-on, the staff know tile well, and some can help with the design on a bigger project to tie things together.

Go see it and feel it. If you will walk on it, check how it feels barefoot. In a wet area, check whether it is too slippery. If you have kids, think about that too. And with a lot of pets, check whether it scratches too easily and whether you need something more resistant.

Tile is like hardwood. Once it is down, you are not touching it for at least 10 years. It is a long-term choice, too big to just throw to the contractor.

We tell you what works and what to avoid, and we give you the amounts. You go see it and feel it, and you pick it.

Layouts and materials

Choose your floor layout and material

Pick the layout and the tile for your floor, and we set it.

Straight lay

A clean square grid. Works on floors, shower walls and almost any room.

Offset / brick

Staggered joints, like brick. A natural fit for subway tile on walls and backsplashes.

Stacked

Tall rectangular tiles set in straight columns. A modern look for shower walls.

Herringbone

Adds movement to a backsplash or a shower floor.

Chevron

Zigzag lines that make a feature wall or backsplash stand out.

Diagonal

Square tile turned 45 degrees. Works on floors and entries.

Hexagon

A classic for bathroom floors and shower floors.

Mosaic

Small tiles on a sheet, often used for shower floors and accents.

Straight, offset and brick patterns are in our price. Herringbone, chevron and borders take longer, so they are priced on your quote.

Tile materials we install

Ceramic

  • Best on walls, backsplashes and lighter-use floors
  • Fine in a shower when properly waterproofed
  • Easy upkeep: wipe clean, no sealing

Porcelain

  • Denser than ceramic and absorbs very little water
  • Great for floors, showers and large-format tile
  • Easy upkeep: wipe clean, no sealing

Natural stone

  • Marble and others: every tile has its own veining
  • Porous, so it needs sealing before and after install
  • More upkeep than ceramic or porcelain

You pick and buy the tile. We tell you exactly how much to order.
